Chemistry is that branch of natural philosophy in which the greatest improvements have been made and may be made - but I have not neglected the other branches of science. A man would make but a very sorry chemist if he attended to that department of human knowledge alone. If your wish is to become really a man of science and not merely a petty experimenter, I should advise you to apply to every branch of natural philosophy, including mathematics.

Laboratory Notebooks |
In Years 12 and 13 you will record all your experiments in a hard-backed A4 notebook.
This is now a course requirement for Year 12 and your practical work will be examined in both AS and A Level papers. You will need to buy a hard-backed notebook and bring it to every lesson. It is worthwhile finding out how to use a laboratory notebook correctly before attempting an experiment. There is a particularly good article here which explains this in detail. Please read this as soon as possible. |
